making soap today

I've been saving my empty laundry detergent bottles for a few months now, and slowly gathering my ingredients. Today I was ready to make my own! I used the ingredients pictured (plus water), and had a little helper. My kids thought the soap looked like cheese when it was grated. They liked that part. I'll let you know soon how it turned out. So far I know it was fun to make, but that's about it!

Living Room!

This is a poor quality photo I know, but I had to show you, I'm finally almost done with the living room! What a difference paint, curtains, a picture, and pillows can make! I think it was an $80 well spent. Do you?

22 week pictures.

Apparently I need lessons on how to pose for these kinds of pictures.

Ahh, finally figured it out!

I'm tired and Cathy is making sure we all know that she is not pregnant! Do we look related? She's my aunt. Sorry Cathy, I know you can handle funny pictures of you being posted on the internet.

Pictures from Sarah's wedding way back in November.

It can be hard to get a good family picture sometimes.

You know?

A funny thing

We got Cameron a set of Lego Duplo blocks. That evening before bed I told him to clean them up. He was being a little grouchy about it so I said "I will put them up until you get bigger if you don't do what I tell you." As I said this I noticed that he was about to drop a lego into the container but instead dropped it on the floor. He said "Ok Mama, that's fine." and stopped cleaning.

I think I must have stared at him for several moments before it dawned on me what had happened. "I will put them up until you get bigger..." he thought I had just offered to clean up for him until he grew up a little. Um...no.

It gave us quite a laugh and I just had to share.

I'm back again

I'm sure anyone who reads this blog already knows that we are expecting. In case anyone wondered, the reason I haven't blogged is because morning sickness has left me completely miserable.

I'm getting better though. :) I stopped eating dairy and it has done wonders. If I was sensitive to it before pregnancy, I didn't know, but now I sure do. I wonder if I've always had problems with milk but never knew until now, when it got really bad. When I was a kid, I hated to drink milk, and since I was a teenager I've had mysterious stomach pains etc. In any case, I'm glad I figured it out so I'm not vomiting several times a day and feeling like my entire digestive tract is on fire any more. I can actually get out of bed for more than two hours a day as well!

Yesterday I made a batch of cookies. Tonight there are four left. Maybe that will help me start gaining weight, or at least keep me from losing more. My kids did eat some. I freely admit that I ate most of them. Don't worry, they are healthy, raisin oatmeal with flax and half the sugar. Oh, and of course not white flour.

Tonight I made up a recipe. Maybe one like it already exists, if so, sorry recipe maker. I couldn't find one like it so that's why I made my own. It was fun to cook again, after holding my breath in my kitchen for the past month and a half.

The Concoction (Dad, I named it that for you)

2-3 baked chicken breasts, cubed (bake with a couple cups of water so you have broth)
1 bag frozen corn...more or less
sliced black olives
1 or 2 cans black beans
1/4 finely chopped cabbage
2 cans rotel tomatoes
chili powder
basil
garlic powder
pepper

Dump it all in a big pot. Add about 3 cups water (?), depending on how much broth you had. Start cooking....when it's hot, add

1 cup dry rice

simmer simmer simmer

yum yum yum

Eat three bowls full. If you can eat dairy, don't tell me that you covered it in cheese and sour cream.

We will probably eat this with tortillas or tortilla chips tomorrow for lunch. I ate it by itself tonight.

Sorry this is so detailed, telling you how many ounces is in a can and all. :P

I didn't have onions or green peppers, and if I did I may or may not have felt like chopping them up, but I'm sure they would be good in it. Cameron thought that the cabbage was onion and freaked out a little, I didn't tell him what it really was, because then he would have freaked out a lot.

Hopefully I will be back soon.
